The Washington Post Reviews "Cake"!!!

Holy smokes!!!  If you'd have asked me if I have ever thought we'd be in the Washington Post, I'd probably think you were pulling my leg.  But dreams do come true!  Film critic Alan Zilberman wrote a stunning review of "Cake" for The Washington Post!

Highlights from the review:

"Through objectification, “Cake” forces its audience to ask what it means when Asian women are endlessly fetishized. Most directors use their camera to expand their vision, inviting multiple meanings. Hu does the opposite, and her sullen eyes imbue “Cake” with the red-hot focus of a laser."

"Based on the strength of her short film, Hu just might become the latest cinematic force to be reckoned with."

A huge thank you goes to Alan Zilberman for speaking to me about stereotypes.  Thanks also to Tom Grahsler for connecting us.

Anne Hu Personally Thanks Katha and Don Cato
"This award means so much to me.  Not only is this my first film festival award, but this festival and its festival directors have a special place in her heart.  I have known Don and Katha Cato, the Festival Directors, since 2013.  Don and Katha recognized my work when no other festival did.  They have watched me and my career grow.  I am so touched by this recognition of not only CAKE's achievements, but also of the importance of LGBTQ, Asian American, and female voices in film."

A sincere and heartfelt thank you goes out to our friends, cast, and crew who attended.  Ya'll made Cake's World Premiere a night to remember at QWFF7.

Congratulations again to the entire Cake team on their hard work and talent that made this film and award possible!

"Cake" Launch Week!

"Cake" Launch Week!

"cake" launch week!

January 27, 2017

What a week of good "Cake" cheer!  Monday we released our "Cake" poster which was well received and today we've released our new trailer!  We've also received our 2nd festival acceptance!  We're not able to announce it just yet, but you'll be sure hear the official word as soon as we're allowed.

Sitting here and waiting for film festival notifications is a nerve wracking process.  For every acceptance, there are multiple rejections.  While it's normal and simply the film festival process, rejection is never easy to accept.

That's why it's imperative to look at the big picture.  I've worked with the most amazing people on "Cake."  From volunteers and PA's all the way to my producer, it's been an incredible journey working with and getting to know on a personal level the talent that made this film possible.  I am so proud of what we made TOGETHER.  I'm so humbled by the incredible lessons I've learned through this team.  Our experiences as a cast and crew are awards in and of themselves.

So as we wait to hear back from festivals, let's look forward!  Let's continue to make art!

Thank you "Cake" team and fans!  2017 will be a great year!
